New Southern Home, Orlando Florida
This spectaculer show home was built using Greenblock 4" and 6" systems. With 12,200 square feet under air and 18,200 square feet under roof the home was built in approximately 158 days in time for it's grand opening during the Southeast Builders Conference in July 2007. The home features numerous corners radiuses, angles and openings which are always a challenge even with conventional building materials. However, the builder, Jim Krantz of James M Krantz Construction Co. marveled at the ease with which the ICF walls were erected. He estimated he was able to save at least 20 construction days by using Greenblock for the exterior walls. The home is also a testament to the energy efficient qualities of ICF's. Having earned Energy Star status and Florida Green Building Certification, the home's electric bills have averaged about $1000.00 per month during a period when the home has been open to literally thousands of visitors, hosted numerous functions and had every light in the house burning 24/7. The New Southern Home will continue to be open to the public at scheduled times throughout the next several months.
